Golf Digest - April 2001
Mike Weisberg, 15, a 13-handicapper from Buffalo Grove, Ill., had a swing flaw that's common when you play a lot of sports: realeasing the club too early and developing a lot of body movement to offset it.
Loco-Motion
Mike let the club release way too early in the downswing, then spun his hips through too soon to accomodate his early release. He hit a lot of fat and thin shots and was giving away a lot of power.
Take A Seat
I helped Mike with a trick I learned from teacher Ben Doyle. We used a club as a "seat," adn braced it against Mike's tailbone as he hit practice shots. To keep that club in place until he reached impact, Mike couldn't overcommit hid body. And if he wanted to hit the ball (and not a foot behind it), he had to delay his release.
In-Sync
Mike hit some bad shots at first, but he adjusted quickly. Here , he has timed his release better with his body action. At impact, the club is trailing his hands, and he's hitting more pwerful and solid shots. He's 15 yards longer now.
